Beyond application frequency, another factor impacting the likelihood of caries arrest is lesion shape and location. Lesions that are shallow and shaped like a plate are more easily cleaned by saliva and brushing. Lesions which are deeper and shaped like a bowl are less cleansible which decreases the chance of successful arrest.
