Common Tongue Findings

Left photo shows geographic tongue, which is a benign, often migratory, waxing and waning finding. Top right photo shows an advanced oral cancer. This patient requires immediate biopsy and referral. Bottom right photo shows fissured tongue with geographic tongue. A fissured tongue is a benign condition that causes grooves on the surface of the tongue. You're more likely to have them if you have geographic tongue.
